how to add an attribute to the total after shipping is calculated

i have an attribute which i don't want to be included in the shipping calculation which is a price table rate. I do want it added to the total price of course. the order total module sort order doesn't offer this. Is there a way of doing this that anyone has done?

Re: how to add an attribute to the total after shipping is calculated

Can you give an example of where you would not want to have this included in the Price when using a Price based shipping method?

Re: how to add an attribute to the total after shipping is calculated

I would think it might be appropriate when a particular attribute increases the price but not the weight/bulk/etc. so doesn't affect the actual cost of shipping.
I wouldn't worry about this unless it causes significant errors in shipping price.
You might consider if there is another shipping calculation method that would be more accurate overall (like weight).

Re: how to add an attribute to the total after shipping is calculated

The reason is that there is a cost associated with packaging that i am using as an attribute(offering gift wrap). Whilst it has a charge I don't want customers to get a shipping price jump as a result of the gift wrap.

Re: how to add an attribute to the total after shipping is calculated

You would need to calculate how many products have the option name/value combination and reduce the price used on the shipping calculation ...

This is not built into Zen Cart to make this calculation, but it could be customized ...

Re: how to add an attribute to the total after shipping is calculated

Ajeh,
Can I somehow grab that from the sessions?
The option name id is 6
the option value id is 298 or 299 (no or yes)

To find the the 298(yes) what would the session be called?

This would help me a lot:smile:
