Table Shipping per Item Cost

I have been using the table shipping for shipping...however this is based on total price of order. Is there a way to use table shipping base on per item cost.

Example:
Product 1 costs 18.99..so shipping is 7.99
Product 2 costs 60.00..so shipping is 12.99
Total shipping on order is then 19.99

Would appreciate any assistance...thanks!

Re: Table Shipping per Item Cost

Are you trying to charge a different amount for each Product?

If so, you might look at the Per Unit perweightunit shipping module that uses the products_weight as the shipping cost for the Product ...

Re: Table Shipping per Item Cost

Yes its different cost per an item, but I want the price of the item to reflect the shipping not the weight.

Re: Table Shipping per Item Cost

You need more detail on what you want here as I am not following you ...

Are you saying ALL Products that cost $18.99 have a $7.99 shipping?

Are you saying ALL Products that cost $60.00 have a $12.99 shipping?

Or are you saying something totally different?

Re: Table Shipping per Item Cost

That is correct..

I tried using a shipping per weight module, however its always off by 3 dollars per an item. Perhaps I need to add a -3 in the s/h.

Re: Table Shipping per Item Cost

And the Configuration ... Shipping/Packaging ... settings for the Tare where 3:0 is adding 3lbs to the Order and will increase the Shipping based on that 3 lbs has been taken in to account?

Or, is it a coincidence of numbers that you are off by 3 ...

Re: Table Shipping per Item Cost

Sorry to dig up older threads, but this is the same problem I have with one of my clients I'm building an e-commerce site for. They do NOT want to use weight to calculate shipping. They have flat rates for EACH product.

So say you have Item A for $5 with shipping set at $3.
And Item B for $10 with shipping for $15.

The shopping cart would say the total is $15 plus $18 shipping = Grand total of $33.00.

Can anyone suggest a way of doing this?

Re: Table Shipping per Item Cost

That is what the Per Unit perweightunit can be used where you use the Product Weight as the shipping cost, as mentioned earlier in this threadd ...

This means you can use the Product Weight and/or Attribute Weight and that is then multiplied by the quantity ...

Now, the Product Weight is not a "weight", instead, it is now the per product per quantity charge for the shipping ...

1 Be sure to set the Tare to 0:0 or you will add on to the shipping cost

2 Be sure to raise the Maximum Weight from 50 to 5000 so that this does not interfer with the charges when using this module ...

Re: Table Shipping per Item Cost

Howdy. I just want to confirm something about your suggested work around module for per-item shipping costs. Can I assume that this module will apply to all products across the catalog? Meaning that you MUST enter something in the weight field for shipping and can no longer offer other shipping options? If they enter nothing in the weight field will the shipping default to $0?

I have several customers who want to offer item-based shipping but not across the board - they want certain special huge/heavy items to have a certain cost to cover the large shipping.

Re: Table Shipping per Item Cost

The Per Unit perweightunit is designed to be able to put in the specific shipping cost on a per product basis ...

It is not designed to run with the other shipping modules that require true weight calculations, such as USPS or UPS ...

It can, however, run with Item count or Price modules ...

Per Unit perweightunit can also be cloned to allow for a different Unit Rate for other zones such as, the US being based on a Unit Rate of 1.00 and then Canada being based on 1.25 and the Rest of the World being based on a unit rate of 1.75 ...

You would want to set the Maximum Weight to 5000, vs the default of 50.00 and set the Tare Weights to 0:0 ...

If you have Products that ship for Free, then set the Product Weight to 0.00 or as Always Free Shipping and set 0 weight means Free shipping ... then install the Free Shipping freeshipper shipping module for when only Free Shipping Products are in the Order ...

Re: Table Shipping per Item Cost

Thanks, Ajeh,

But I don't think this will work for us. What my clients really want to do is have everything working the way it is, with weight based shipping or flat or table ship on most items, and then also offer free shipping on only certain products, and then also only offer large/heavy shipping on certain items that don't fit a normal UPS model.

I have marched this around my head and with some other developers and the different retail store owners. It seems that using the zones or product types would be the best way to investigate something like that. If there were a way to assign certain shipping modules to a product type and then assign some products to that type, that would take care of it.

Thanks. I will let people know if I ever develop a function for this.

Re: Table Shipping per Item Cost

What happens on a mixed cart of product types or shipping methods?

Let us know what you work out on this ...
