stock showing a minus number in admin

Hi

I have a little puzzle going on here.

I am trying to keep track of stock on my site but I have just taken an order for 2 of the same items. However there was only 1 item in stock (as set in my admin stock level for this item). However the customer was allowed to checkout and ordered the two items. First of all I thought that was meant to be prevented by using the stock control built in to ZC but more worrying is that the stock count in admin now shows -1. The item in question does now show out of stock but not before it was ordered. Now I am confused!

Can anybody help me out please. I did do a search on the forum before posting but I could not see any related posts so I apologize in advance if this question has been asked previously and answered a million times. :)

Admin Panel ---> Configuration ---> Stock

The Check stock level option should be set to "True" and Allow Checkout should be set to "False". This will prevent customers from going to checkout if there's not enough stock.

These are indeed set as you suggest but the problem is that if buying 2 x item A at once and there is only 1 x item A in stock, the buyer HAS been allowed to checkout (buying 2 x item A) when there is not enough stock to fulfill the order. On top of this that item now shows -1 item in stock in the admin. This should not be allowed to happen!

Very strange and my worry is that as the buyer has already paid at checkout and is oblivious to the stock-out this is a potential cause for customer compaint / issuing refunds / etc.

I am also having this problem, I have changed the settings as mentioned above to see if this helps me. Would be interested to see if there are any other suggestions.

On the shopping cart page you do not get this warning?

Products marked with *** are out of stock or there are not enough in stock to fill your order.
Please change the quantity of products marked with (*). Thank you
