Turning of some sideboxes for some categories

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but I would like to turn some sideboxes of on some category pages. I also would like to turn some sideboxes of on some checkout pages.

Can this be done and how do I do it.

I'm still in the process of learning php, so if I need to edit that please tell me the way you would tell a 4 year old.

I asked this question , then answered it myself after I had time to think about it . you can use the variable Cpath to find out what category you are in at any one time . so my sidebox I only wanted it to appear in category 14
