Question regarding customizing the check out flow...

Greetings all,

My first post. Thanks for having me in advance :)

My company recently released a Zen Cart based website for our customer https://www.eotac.com. All was fine and well. Now the customer has indicated they want to make significant modification to the check out flow starting with:

Optional registration to checkout, ie they can just enter their data and go...

Significantly reworked checkout flow (reduced from 3 steps to 2 with fields being juggled between step 1 and 2).

Thus far, we have been unable to figure out how to do any of this! I imagine anything is possible since Zen is a open source product. If anyone knows of any tutorials or can offer any assistance, it would be greatly appreciated.

Sure it can be done, but the cart (and the validation around it) is necessarily one of the more complex aspects of Zen Cart (especially since this is old code scheduled for re-write anyway).

So, I'll point you in the direction of the includes/modules/pages/checkout_XXXX folders and the includes/templates/template_default/tpl_checkout_xxxxx.php files but with the health warning that this is one of those "if you have to ask how, you probably shouldn't attempt it" type questions.

This may be out of our league since we are just getting started. Do you know of a board, here or elsewhere, where we could look for potential candidates to make these changes for us?
