Im stumped!!

I just cant work out this shipping rate stuff..

My cart contents are shown in kg, for example, a small item 1kg

If i set up my rates as follows:

zone 1 countries (just france for now)
FR

zone 1 shipping
1:10,2:20,3:30

you would expect to get a shipping cost of 10ukp for the 1kg item?

As i understand it
0-1kg=10UKP
1-2kg=20UKP
2-3kg=30UKP

Well i get
"Zone Rates (The shipping rate cannot be determined at this time)"

I am assuming the weights in the shipping table are in KG?
The shipping address for the items is france.

please help..!

Weights are just values but not true weights that calculate for you differences ...

By default, the weight is used as pounds in Zen Cart and there are calculations in, for example, USPS shipping module to convert the weight from decimal into pounds and ounces ...

You could do something similar with your shipping weights ...

I dont follow.? I'm just using the default module 'zone rates'
When i see an item in my cart i see kg as the weight unit.

In the 'help example' on the page you get..

Zone 1 Shipping Table
Shipping rates to Zone 1 destinations based on a group of maximum order weights/prices. Example: 3:8.50,7:10.50,... Weight/Price less than or equal to 3 would cost 8.50 for Zone 1 destinations.
You can end the last amount as 10000:7% to charge 7% of the Order Total

It says 'weight/price less than or equal to 3'

..3 what exactly, kg, pounds, elephants?

If have an item that is 1kg, will the 8.5 (in the example shown here) be charged?

kg is just text ... you could relable the products_weight to show as elephants and it would have as much meaning ...

If you need to convert the weight from one unit of measure to another you will need to make that calculation work for you ...

Right now, the USPS shipping module shows how the products_weight is converted from a decimal measure of pounds to pounds and ounces for use with USPS ...

The default for the Tare is to add 3 more units to the total weight calculated from the products_weight when added to the Shopping Cart ...

The Tare allows for the amount to be either a specific weight or a percentage or a combination of both ...

If you do not need a Tare weight added that can be set to 0:0 and nothing is added ...

If you need to convert your weight in some manner you may do so in the code ...

I agree with what you are saying the unit, ie kg, has no bearing.

But if an item has a unit of 1 for the weight, and the following is set up, why would this not work.

zone 1 shipping
1:10,2:20,3:30

Have you an URL to your site?

NOTE: check your Shipping/Packaging and make sure your Tare is: 0:0 and that Maximum Weight is 50 ...

Also be sure on the Zone Rate zones that you have it set to: Weight

NOTE: anything over the last setting will be $0.00 ...
