Page_2 having 2 different contents depending on logged-in status

Hi.

I have written an article to be displayed on my page_2. The thing is that when the user is not logged in, I want a generic message to be displayed (Please, log in to view this article) and when he is, he will see the article.

What I want to know is in what variable is the "logged-in flag" stored so that I can do something like this.

Pseudocode:

if (user is logged in) {
  display_article;
else
  display_login_message;
}

Again, where is the value stored so that I can check for it in the "if" statement?

Thank you very much for any help :)
