Here's My Product Type Walk through

Hey guys, I'm new to Zen-Cart and I couldn't find any real good documentation for the custom product type development, so I built my own.

Sorry for the long link, but it's cms, anyhow, here you go guys. I'm not completely finished with this just yet, but I should be by saturday.

If anybody can help point me in the right direction to where I've left off, that would save me A LOT of time. Thanx guys

Very detailed, ^_^. You should contact one of the devs to get access to zen wiki and put this whole article there.

I am having issues with copy-to-confirm, so I'm waiting breathlessly for chapter 9 :D

Found my error.. I'm good to go now; however the documentation you put together look really great and will help others new to this process which can seem daunting at times.

I greatly apologize that I haven't been able to get back to this project in a while. I haven't added the next section about how to add new product fields to each of the product types.

I actually got stuck myself on the code that it requires in to add new product fields to the DB. So I'm working on developing a chunk of code right now that will check to see if the fields have already been added to the DB and if not create the fields.

But I've just been swamped with business lately. I apologize again guys, if anybody can assist me with this chunk of code I'll get started on finishing the documentation.

I'm even willing to pay somebody $50 bucks if they can provide me with a chunk of code to do this. I'll check back often, just post the code here and I will test it out. If it works I'll pm you for your paypal email. Just so we are clear on the requirements, hrere you go.

The problem: The fields and variables that area created for the admin - create new product page are posted to the preview page as hidden input fields. Upon accepting this preview page the fields are posted to the next page described in my documentation.

This next page requires some PHP to manage the following:

1. Read in the the fields and locate the custom variables and their values.

2. Check the product type DB for these new fields and if not exists then create them.

3. If exists then add the value.

4. This page manages the add, update and delete and therefore the php should also be capable of managin gthese features.
