am I dumb??

Hi there all,

I have just downloaded zencart (I think) I have a domain name registered and hosted with another company, who that is I forget, what I really need to know is how do I get started building my webshop etc.

I have looked for the installation files but I cannot seem to find any.

Also how easy is it to transfer my domain name to a hosting company that zencart recommends?

Am I out of my depth?

Thanks

Mick

Re: am I dumb??

Hi Mick... welcom to the best forum on earth.

Let's move one step at a time...

  1. Before you think about setting up a zenshop, we need to help you sort out the domain and hosting issue. Is there a website currently operating on this domain? ... or is the name just registered? There are web-based tools to find out where it's hosted, who it's registered through, etc. So do this first. (look for WHOIS tools on google.)

(you could try https://www.dnsstuff.com)

  1. When you have established this data, you'll need to decide WHERE you would like your zenshop HOSTED, and I strongly recommend you consider a host featured in the CERTIFIED HOSTS section of this site (link at top of screen). The reason for this is that these hosts have set up their servers to operate perfectly with zencart. Many hosts (who claim to be able to host Zencart) do not have their systems properly configured.

  2. A certified host will probably install ZC for you - a GREAT help to absolute novices, as you can be dead sure that the installation is 100%. They may charge a nominal fee - some will do it as part of their hosting.

  3. A certified host will be in a better position to assist you, and this forum is FULL of solutions, ideas, suggestions and help.

(PS: IF you contact on of the certified hosts right away, they can probably do steps 1 and 2 (above) for you.)
