unable to upload images

Hello

A little while ago I put the security_patch_v138_20080919.php onto our site.

Everything worked fine - until recently when we wanted to create some new products and upload an image onto the new product through the admin area. We now have this message at the top of the catalog admin area (note I've replaced numbers with Xs):

Error: Catalog images directory is not writeable: /home/.sites/XXX/siteXXXX/web/images/

I've not changed any permissions since setting the site up - it was all working as it should. But since the security patch went on I'm guessing I need to change a permission somewhere or place a line of code somewhere to get the security patch to allow us to upload images again.

Any help is very welcome.

Many thanks in advance.

Carl

Re: unable to upload images

Check the permissions on this folder /images
It should be either 775 or 777 on a Linux server

Re: unable to upload images

Hello

It's 775.

That's why I'm unsure what I need to do - the only thing that I've done to change anything is put the security patch onto the site

Re: unable to upload images

The security patch mentioned has nothing to do with it. It doesn't change any file or folder permissions, nor does it change the way those permissions are used. Maybe it was coincidence that you noticed the problem around the same time as you installed the patch. But it wasn't the patch causing the problem, nor drawing any new attention to it.

Check with your server administrator/owner about whether you require "777" or "755" to make the folder writable.
If talking to them scares you, then try changing it to 777.

And, by the way, 775 (which you stated, rather than 755) is an unusual setting unless your server is set up for a special group-security permissions setting. Again, you need to consult your server administrator (hosting company?) to confirm the appropriate setting.

Hello

Thanks for the response DrByte - it was 775 on a linux server, I changed it to 777 and all works fine.

As with most of these things it appears to be a user error /slightly embarrassed smile/ namely me. Doh!

I guess the security patch highlighted the issue of permissions on that folder.

Thanks again.
