Sort by Date Added/Product ID

Hi,

I'd like the default sort method when a customer views a list of products to be by date added/product id. This way customers always see the most recently added products first.

I'd like this to occur for all product listings and search results. I don't want categories to be sorted this way though.

Any hints on how I can do this?
