advice on fresh installation please

Hello.
I have a live site using latest zen cart.
I need to reinstall zen cart , as i believe there might have been some problems with db or some files.
however, I don't want to take the site down while i install fresh copy of zen cart .
Is it possible to install to different directory on my domain and once im happy with everything, move new installation to root of my domain ?

I have backed up both the db and all original files.

yes, you can make a folder name anything install zencart get it running then when you move it you will have to make changes to the configure.php files there are two of them. search the forum you will find information on this, good luck.
