Products Quantity Box - default off/no qty=1

I wonder if there is a little text/number somewhere in the php files that can auto set this annoying default that always shows the quantity box to on/yes, that I can make my cart in admin show it as a dot in the radio button as off/no.
As most of my products are near always sold as single items its so easy to just list a number of items then have to go back & re-edit them when you realise youve left the defaults as is.

Id really like to add so many more on, but its all these great options that are set as defaults the wrong option for me that slows me down.

Products Quantity Box Shows:
Yes, Show Quantity Box CURRENT DEFAULT
No, Do not show Quantity Box REQUIRED DEFAULT

A very god cart other than a few niggles here & there, the help here is fantastic, & hopefully in time when Im no longer just a user I can help others too when Im confident of my own cart workings. Started October 2007 its being picked up quite well for the small amount (less than 100) of items within it.

You could try changing the default in the Configuration ... Product Info ...

maybe this is better switched to off/0 then.
There are a very few items I will use a qty box but all these can
over ridden at the refresh box on checkout.

Try it and see which way works best for your needs ...

By default we have the Quantity box setup to be ON or 1 vs OFF or 0 ...

Okay Linda, since looking at that change, (sure I did that before), it does swap it round for adding new items (tried one just to tes) but it also now stops the entry box to left of the refresh image in the shop cart checkout so you cannot add or change the quantity there at all now.
As stated most would onlky buy one item but there are a few items that could do with the qty available to be changed, either at the product end or at the cart checkout end.
I value your input of apparent higher knowledge.

Maybe we should step back for a minute and try to understand exactly when you do and do not want the Quantity box to show ...

You can have the quantity box on:
Product Listing
New Listing
Featured Listing
All Listing
shopping_cart
product _info

Where do you want to see the quantity box and where do you not want to see the quantity box?

Thanks for the additional input on a simple irritation of mine.

Quantity box DEFAULTS:
NO Product Listing
NO New Listing
NO Featured Listing
NO All Listing
YES shopping_cart
NO product _info

YES to two product lines
NO to all other product lines

But YES in the shopping cart so it can be amended there by customer, say 1 to 2 then able to use the refresh/update button.

So I will now have a look at the shopping_cart option somewhere, although its not quite as notable as the others mentioned above.

Its a slow process, been at this since Oct 2007, & have only just broke the 100 item barrier, but its no good having thousands of items without having a cart working how you want it.
We are selling items but as yet theres still so many options to get used to.

You might look at some of the configuration settings for example:

Configuration ... Product Listing ...

Display Product Add to Cart Button (0=off; 1=on; 2=on with Qty Box per Product)
Do you want to display the Add to Cart Button?

NOTE: Turn OFF Display Multiple Products Qty Box Status to use Option 2 on with Qty Box per Product

Configuration ... New Listing ...

Display Multiple Products Qty Box Status and Set Button Location
Do you want to display Add Multiple Products Qty Box and Set Button Location?
0= off
1= Top
2= Bottom
3= Both

Configuration ... Product Info ...

etc. etc. and these change to just Add to Cart or Buy Now buttons ...

NOTE: on the Product itself leave the Default to YES ... and use the Configuration switches to control things ...

Well going through all those, I still have qty 1 FIXED and it cannot be changed in the shopping cart.
I think its good as I add new items, but there is certainly a lot of options & combinations related to 'qty' in so many of the different configerations.

Im easily lost at present on this!

Have you an URL to your site for one of the Products that you want to work this way that we could perhaps peek at? :smile:

Make sure that your Products are setup to use the Quantity box so that the Configuration settings can be used on each section to control how you want this to be used ...

I have this one, catagory to have qty box alongside product;

Whereas most products like these only want one set as they are here, not to say Max 1 either, but not to affect the overall shop cart where now its fixed at 1 & cannot be changed there.

So I think its almost there, just the one setting left to bring it back next to the refresh box.

Did you fix this already? I am not seeing the quantity box on the top one of the listing and just the buy now button is showing ... :unsure:

Looking at my top link (1) shown again below, it clearly shows me an 'add to cart' with qty 1 in the box thats editable. Thats as I want that product to show.

(2) Thats the listing of those that are working fine too, qty box required.

(3) This is an example of what I need for ALL the remainder of my product listings, just with a 'add to cart' without any wording like 'Max 1' or a box showing a figure.

(4) Is another product thats showing correct format.
(5) This is a list of products all as required & format.

Now the point Im getting at is, any new ones I now list ought to come up as the primary just 'Add to cart' without any qty or boxes.
BUT the bit Ive now lost is that products in the shopping cart basket part cannot now be amended if they have not an qty box in the actual product listing.
I need a screen shot here but tried a page copy...

What is the setting on the Product set to for products_id 50 on:
Products Quantity Box Shows: YES or NO

If you set that to NOT show the Quantity Box ... then you don't get to see the Quantity box and that overrides all other settings ...
