Re: I need an add-on for display different language by different ip address?

Would it be simpler to just create a small "widget" that displays in the header or an editable sidebox that contains Google's translator?

I am not a coder, so I really don't know, but I found one for my wordpress blog and wonder if it would work in Zen Cart....

Just a thought.

Re: I need an add-on for display different language by different ip address?

I found the "Language Translator Sidebox",
but it can not do what I want to.

Who can write a module for waht I need?

Language Translator Sidebox

This module works directly with Google translator. It offers every language package that Google does (about 80). This is very easy to set up, and works beautifully.

Re: I need an add-on for display different language by different ip address?

I dont' want to use the Language Translator. What I'd like is display my site in one of the installed languages i have depending on the location of the visitor.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

This is not as simple as it may sound. You need a script to translate ip address to country code, then you set the language to that.

Google for "ip address to country" will show you a list of script that does so.

I no longer provide installation support on forum for all my modules. However, if there are real bugs with the modules please feel free to contact me

Re: I need an add-on for display different language by different ip address?

I'm an English speaking expatriate who...

...lives in SPAIN...

But I don't speak Spanish...

I log into your site with my Spanish IP...

I get a site I don't understand...

OR: I live in South Africa...

There are 13 Official Languages in South Africa...

How does your site know (from my SA IP address, which of those 13 languages I prefer to use?)

Just enable your languages box and set it to display high up in the sidebox.

Re: I need an add-on for display different language by different ip address?

Well, there actually is a ZC module that translates the customers IP to their country of origin when they first access your site. It would be an ideal place to start to make a good educated guess what initial language to display. Be sure though that if you are wrong (as the gent in Spain pointed out) that you provide a simple and obvious method to change the language.

Search in the add-ons for geo4zen

Note that this is a basic mod to add the geo-awareness to ZC. It is intended to provide hooks (via the $_SESSION array) for programmers to do interesting things with such a tid-bit of info. It has little "fancy" functionality otherwise.

The only thing it does Out-of-the-box is to let you specify which countries you are willing or able to do business with (or which you won't deal with).

Your idea if guessing the visitors language from the get-go would be a nice use of this mod. I might even be willing to help you do this if you are up to a little coding.

How do you live in Spain and not speak Spanish!?

That's probably a lot like living in California and not speaking Spanish...

Re: I need an add-on for display different language by different ip address?

I don't live in Spain myself... just using it as an example. (There are thousands of UK expats in Spain who don't speak Spanish.) I could have said

I am a Spanish expatriate living in Turkey, I don't speak Turkish...

or

I am a French speaking Greek who has a Portuguese mother and a Swedish father and we currently live in Egypt... and none of us speaks Egyptian.

The point is so simple...

Just enable the languages side box - users will make the choice about what language they want. You are trying to automate a process that needs no automation. That's dumb!

Ok, I see many script possibilities to accomplish this, but two more questions.

  1. Where is the ideal place to put the call to the script.
  2. What is the code to set the language to what I want.

I know that /?language=tr for example will set the language, but this only works on the front page of the site.

thanks

Just create your own init_language script and you can call it before the default one. Perhaps you can manually set the $_GET
Check wiki for auto_loader manual

Well, then I am dumb I guess. Because I do not see ZC as a one size fits all cart. My apologies for offending you.
