Replace text/html description text box with GUI editor

I would like to replace the standard text/html based description box, show when you create a listing, with a more user friendly GUI type text formatter. Similar to what ebay uses, it lets you insert pictures, bold, italicize, change text color, line brake, etc. without actually knowing html or css. I’m not sure what this would need to be programmed in or where to start. Could you please give me a point in the right direction? Thank you!

......for example BBcode is close to what I want except I dont ever what the user to see the HTML source code.
