Copy Products to New Zen Cart Site?

I have an existing ZC but I am setting up a new site (also using ZC) that will be a split of my current site so I need to move/copy these products to the new ZC. They are complex products (attributes and quantity price discounts, etc) so I would LOVE not to have to redo all these products.

If you have a solution for me please be as specific as possible on the "how to" part as I'm not a pro at ZC (yet ;) )

TIA!!

Re: Copy Products to New Zen Cart Site?

If the only differences are the template used - - you can copy all the tables excepting the address, customer, and all order related tables and apply these to your new store

Re: Copy Products to New Zen Cart Site?

Kobra's spot on...

... I do this quite often (cloning my webshops) and I do it through phpMyAdmin.

I get phpMyAdmin to EXPORT all the SQL (if the dbase is large, I do it in manageable "chunks"), then I save that SQL in what is essentially a .txt file.

I copy the site's folders and load them on a new domain/server,, create a blank database, then use the saved SQL to "populate" the new store.

There's a bit more to it - and there are tutorials on this forum that go into the detail, but it's a relatively quick process...

... my "record" for cloning a full shop (on the same server) is a little under 8 minutes!

If you have already installed ZenCart for this other site then no...
You just need the tables for all else applied

Re: Copy Products to New Zen Cart Site?

Well that's good news :)
How do I do that? Sorry but I'm clueless about copying and what to copy.

Re: Copy Products to New Zen Cart Site?

There are TWO fundamental parts to zencart:

  1. The SOFTWARE that makes it function

  2. The DATABASE where all the data is stored.

The SOFTWARE includes all the template files, php files, css files. etc. - ie: all the components that reside in folders on your server.

The DATABASE also resides on your server, but is sophisticated arrangement of all the information your site uses - such as product descriptions, customer details, website settings, etc.

If you have identical ZC configurations in several webshops, you can make the database of one shop completely compatible with the database of any of the other shops...

... all you need do is LINK the required DATABASE, with the required SOFTWARE installation.

This is what we are trying to do with your shop.

So, if you want an identical shop, then you must copy the SOFTWARE and the DATABASE - then link them together in the new installation.

As you only want product info Kobra is saying that it will not be necessary to export>>>import your customer data.

It looks to me like you're not familiar with / experienced with cloning a webshop...

It's not complicated, but there is a PROCEDURE to follow.

There are tutorials in the FAQ, I believe for MOVING a website (much the same as COPYING a website).
