How to setup buy 1 get 1 free?

Is there a "specials" setting where I can setup a buy 1 get 1 free offer? I would like the customer to add an item to the cart and the system will automatically enter 2.

Possible?

To get that particular behavior, you'd have to write code.

If you want to use Better Together from the downloads area, you can do two for one offers, but they show up at checkout and the person has to manually add the second item.

Or you can simply to give your customers a 50% discount coupon? :-)
Edit: sorry, it seem a bit more work to need to do. if you customer buy 2 product, then they qualified the 50% discount.

The coding needed is explained as an example about 2/3s of the way down this wiki page. IF you don't find it search for "BOGOF".

50% discount is certainly one approach. The advantages to using Better Together though are:

a) If the items have priced attributes, the least expensive one is discounted.
b) You get to turnover two pieces of stock instead of one (if inventory turns are important).
c) You get to capture the entire margin from one item instead of half the margin.

Good luck,
Scott
