Category Description during shopping

The old chestnut of size/colour options on products rears it's head again. I was trying the approach of sub categories, where the sub category carries the main general detail and then each product would show only the specific size/colour option and price. This seems to work well EXCEPT... I cannot see the category description during the shopping experience and can't find an option to display it.

Can anyone assist with this please?

You say "during the shopping experience" - does this mean on the product listing page or on the product info page? I don't think there is an option to turn off the category description on the listing page, nor an option to turn it on for the info page.
Configuration > Product Info > Previous Next - Navigation Includes Category Name and Image Status
is the closest I can see.

If you have all options broken down at the listing page level so that no more choices need to be made beyond adding the right item to the cart, there is no need to go to the info page.

Is there a reason that you don't want to use attributes?

When you select the category (actually in this case a sub category) from the sidebox, it pops the image and name and then lists all the products in that category. I am looking to be able to see the description of the category at the same time as the category image and category name. That way I don't have to repeat the description for every 'product' (nor the image).

Yes there is a description to the category.

The url is https://www.cavendishbridgefarm.co.uk/shopcrt and look at Jacket X . As you can see I am still trying to 'shape' the site and there are very few products yet. There will be 'thousands' I have been told.

Well here is something stupid...

I have just added a second product to the sub category because it occurred to me that you might not see what I was getting at and blow me now it displays!

So the description belongs to the
Winning Ways "Poppy"
subcat?
There is only one product in that subcat, so by default when it is chosen the subcat page is skipped and it goes straight to the product info page. Add another "product" to that subcat and see the subcat listing page show up.

You can also set
Configuration > Layout Settings > Skip 1-prod Categories
to false.
