How to clone the product type "product - general" ?

This is very urgent, I'm working on a project now.
I need to know how to clone the existing product type "product - general". I will name the new cloned product type as "product - artwork".

So, I can add a new product "artwork" from admin panel.

Thanks in advance.

Re: How to clone the product type "product - general" ?

For finding all files and such it might be easier to clone Product Free Shipping by doing a search in the Tools ... Developers Tool Kit ... for the term:
product_free_shipping

Product General you are searching for the word:
product

and that is everywhere ...

The differences between Product General and Product Free Shipping is that the Always Free Shipping is set to default to true ... which you can change on your cloned code and settings ...

Thanks, I will try it.

How about the database? Is there any modification of table that I should make?

And also, anyone can give me a simple step-by-step tutorial for creating product type?
(Please don't tell me about the sticky post "Adding New Product_types", I've read it and it doesn't have information that I want).

A new database is only required if you need it ...

Look at how the Product Music is managed ...

There are Product Types in the Free Software Add-Ons that might also help you on this to see what all had to be touched to get them working ...

Product Free Shipping, Document General and Document Product, for example, all use the same database structure as Product General ...

Their Templates/Layouts and Defaults are different, but the same database tables are used ...

It really depends on what you need to make the new Product Type function for you ...
