How to transfer Domain to Dedicated Server with godaddy?

I got a godaddy shared hosting account current. Now I have decided to move my site over to a virtual dedicated server. The file and data transfer is okay. However, now i am have no idea how to transfer the domain from the shared hosting to dedicated. I read the godaddy help files (not very helpful). What do i need to setup on the virtual dedicated server? Any pointers would be appreciated.

I moved from Godaddy to another host and this was extremely helpful:

I set up a test site using another domain name and practiced to make sure I had it all down before actually moving my site.

I'm sorry to hear that you've stuck with GoDaddy. After choosing Zen cart, my second best decision was getting rid of Godaddy has my main host.

I have done that part of the transfer. the problem i am having is resolving the domain name from shared hosting to the virtual dedicated server. Is all i do is update the ARecord in the domain console with the new ip?

any help would be appreciated. thanks

First: you need to go to the domain control panel and change the nameservers to the new ones (your new host should have sent you the nameservers you need to use)
Second: contact your new host, let them know the domain you want to use with the host
Third: wait. For 1and1 it took me like 72 hours or more. For namecheap it's usually 24-48 hours. Anyhow, the normal time is 48 hours more or less
