Need help with Easy Populate

I'm having a difficult time getting Easy Populate to work correctly.
I downloaded version 1.2.5.5 from the Zen Cart Free Addons.
I installed it correctly as far as I can tell.
I tried adding 100 products to the spreadsheet version of the file
that I got from the server, after following instructions on the Tools->Easy populate page in Admin.
That file is :Full-EP2008Dec03-1010.txt.
Once I added the 100 products in the proper category in the spreadsheet,
I saved the file as a text file, like it was supposed to be saved.
I then uploaded the file using an FTP program (FileZilla) and then
inserted that file into the DB from the Tools->Easy populate page in Admin.
I got no errors other than, a message about a skipped product, that was essentially a blank row at the end of the file
(Full-EP2008Dec03-1010.txt)
I corrected that by deleting the blank row and saving it as a text file, inside notepad2.exe.
Tried the upload again, and no change. Still got 'Skipped' message.

Only 1 out of 100 products was added to the products category. The other 99 do not display.
That one product was the last one in the list of 100. The category already had 50 products in it that I added manually.

Can anyone help me with this problem?
I haven't been able to get this to work, after reading all the help files and postings in the forum, related to Easy Populate.

Re: Need help with Easy Populate

Without seeing your file, let me offer a few suggestions:

Make sure the last two columns read 1 and EOREOR for each line (product) you have on the spreadsheet.

Have you assigned a product model #?

Tina,
Yes. The last two columns read 1 and EOREOR for every product
in that model. I have set the others, the test models, etc. to 0 and EOREOR so that they don't appear.
I modified the "Classic" template and saved it as my own, in all appropriate folders;
such as /includes/templates/my_template/.... etc.
I have assigned a name, not a number for the product model.
For example: Diffusers-Fragrance is the model.
Does it explicitly have to be a number? No letters?
The examples in the "Classic" template were not exclusively numbers,
therefore I thought the nomenclature could be the same
for my models.

I can send you the file if you would like to see it.
Please let me know.

Re: Need help with Easy Populate

Tina,
First let me thank you on this forum for your help.
I couldn't have arrived at the right conclusion without
your expertise.

The solution is simple, (as you pointed out).
The Product ID or "v_products_model" (first column in the spreadsheet) of the file must be unique for each row.
In my file, I had 'diffusers-fragrance' as the model for 150 different fragrances.
Originally, before I installed Easy Populate, I entered fifty(50) of those fragrances manually through
the Admin->Catalog/Products section, one at a time.

When I did the manual entries, I used 'diffusers-fragrance' for
ALL 50. Zen Cart let me do it without logging it or sending me an error. I shouldn't have done that.
Once I installed Easy Populate, I assumed that I could copy that
same 'diffusers-fragrance' for every additional fragrance that I added to the list. I was wrong.

Once I simply named the 'diffusers-fragrance' to 'diffusers-(name of fragrance)' and uploaded to the dB,
it successfully added all the new 100 additional fragrances and displayed them.

I wouldn't have made that mistake, if I had read the instructions more carefully.
Zen cart points this out in the early part of Zen Cart FAQ's.

Once again, Tina thank you for pointing this out to me.
I appreciate the time you took to help me do this.
Once again proof positive that experienced Zenners really are willing to help us noobs get it done right.

Many many Thanks.

Re: Need help with Easy Populate

schoolboy:

Did your search not ever reveal my WIKI tutorial?

http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Easy_Populate

Schoolboy,
Yes, I did peruse your wiki.
But, as I said, I wouldn't have made that mistake, if I had read the instructions more carefully.

I simply ignored the 'unique' assignment because Zen cart allowed me to enter the duplicate name manually,
one-row-at-a-time, before I even downloaded Easy Populate.
Yes. I was dumb, I admit it.
However, the logic escaped me because of my belief that it didn't appear to make a difference when I entered them manually.
Isn't there a way for Zen Cart to be able to run a 'duplicate' check for the 'v_products_model' column?
Or any row/column that shouldn't be duplicated?

BTW.. I reread your wiki, and it's very well written. Thanks for that.
