Page Elements Blurry

Hi

I've built a custom front page for zencart (by removing all elements and adding images with links to my cataloge).
My page displays perfectly in publisher, however when i view in internet explorer many of the images are blurry and pixelated - even the autoshapes i used for the bars!

I've tried playing with the compression settings in publisher without any luck.

My site is at http://www.imagocollections.com.au/cataloge

Any help would be really appreciated as i've searched and searched and can find nothing on this.

Thanks

Re: Page Elements Blurry

If you want to tilt images, you will have to tilt them at large scale in Photoshop or whatever, and then shrink the result down to your intended display size before saving for web.

Re: Page Elements Blurry

You have stuck nearly all of an HTML page inside a complete HTML page, duplicating the head and body tags. That is very bad practice. There is also a huge mass of proprietary code generated by your program which may not be understood by browsers in general. Frontpage is known for generating very messy code, and not working well with PHP applications.

Re: Page Elements Blurry

Hi, thanks for all of that.

What would be the correct way to achieve what i'm trying to do?

Also any idea why those autoshapes aren't as clear as they are in publisher?

Thanks again

Craig

Re: Page Elements Blurry

You would have to ask someone familiar with how Frontpage works about the autoshapes.

You have on your homepage essentially a total of eight images, two colored rectangles/bars and a "shadow-bordered" rectangle. (Or seven images with one including the shadow border.) This would be extremely simple to build with modern div/css coding, and the code would be much less than a tenth of the length of your current code (say a thirtieth or so).

Now that you have gotten a good layout with the wysiwyg program, you can use that as a reference to build a clean page. (It will load a whole lot faster than what you have, too.)

Re: Page Elements Blurry

Oh well - back to the drawing board (again). The main reason i went that way was to have links in each of the small photo frames. Is there any way of inserting links into these images if I save everything between the grey bars as 1 jpeg.

many thanks again:smile:

Re: Page Elements Blurry

Certainly. You can make <a> elements with ids so they can be individually sized and positioned on the page, using CSS. Each link can be an invisible area that you position on top of one of the pictures.

<a id="womensLink" href="etc"> </a>

Re: Page Elements Blurry

And in your stylesheet, something like:

#womensLink {
    position: absolute;
    top: 220px;
    left: 513px;
    height:200px;
    width: 158px;
    }

That would cover the "womens" picture as it sits on the page now.

Re: Page Elements Blurry

Glenn's point about a "html page inside an html page" is very important.

It's generally OK to use an external HTML editor to create the basic code for a customised page (ez pages, defined pages, etc).

And even the horrible MS Publisher / MS FrontPage is OK here ... as long as you keep the code generic HTML and do not strip in a lot of BOT type things that only MS and FrontPage understand.

Secondly, never copy the whole page's code - only the bit between the <body> and </body> tags .
