change url .. can't login

eeek! so .. I installed zencart on my domain at domain.com/zencart .. i then figured out that it would be prettier to have shop.mydomain.com instead ... so i created a subdomain which is aimed at the /zencart directory

so . i changed the configuration.php file and the admin/includes/configuration.php file ..

everything seems to work .. but .. now users can't log in

did i miss a file?:oops:

oh .. i get no error .. it just kicks me back to the front page and sees me as guest.

btw ... from /includes/configure.php i changed the following:
i did the same basic thing in the admin/includes/configure.php file

  define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://shop.domain.com');

  define('ENABLE_SSL', 'false');

Did you change the same in the /admin directory.

well ... there's a configuration.php in /admin .. but it's generic .. has no domain name or path info

i changed /includes/configuration.php and
i changed /admin/includes/configuration.php

currently i put the includes/configuration.php back to it's original state .. and it works again (but not with new url) ...

help would be appreciated! :bigups:

if you have setup sub domain in your host cPanel and set it to point to 'shop' folder on server

then believe requires moving all files to 'shop' folder that needs to be created

if setup shop subdomain to point to zencart folder then it will go there everytime you want shop.domain as you have told it to go to zencart folder

I could be wrong though and perhaps someone else will advise more accurately if I am wrong

yes, it was in cpanel that i created the subdomain, and gave it the directory zecart is in. (no need to create a new directory to move it to .. you can simply tell it where to go..)

it's really strange because as admin, it works ... it's just as a user that it doesn't.

yes .. but you need a folder you want it to go to ... if setting it to go to zencart directory then it will not show shop before the domain name

try it ... create a shop folder and add a simple index.html page

then set your shop subdomain to point to the shop folder you created and see what happens

sorry steve .. afraid you're wrong ... or not understanding me ..

i created the subdomain, gave it the path to zencart ...
then .. i changed the 2 different config files with the updated site name (http://shop.domain.com versus http://domain.com/zencart) .. the rest of the paths remain the same

both work .. admin and catalog ... i can log in as admin .. but if i try to log in the catalog as anyone .. it just kicks me back to the front page of the shop ... no message no nothing. ..

it's all good there.

ether you have left a "/zencart" in the catalog config or you have a hard-coded link somewhere with /zencart in it.

well ... you'd think ... that's been my whole big question that started this thread ... other than in the catalog's config file:

i wonder if it's some session setting? i just tried my changed config .. cleared out cookies and stuff on firefox and chrome ... and it worked .. ie, regardless of what i seem to do, still won't work ... hrmmmm

tracey, this looks like a security error to me. I had a similar problem and did the following:

0. I checked my configure.php and admin/configure.php again and found nothing wrong
1. I (did not, but should have) backed up my database
2. I went to my install folder using my webbrowser
3. I updated the database even though there was nothing to update but just ran it
4. I went to my webpage and login was working
