Forwarding to Select shipping address after logging in or creating new address

I have setup a gift shop and currently faces a problem with billing address/shipping address selection. Since mine is a gift shop, generally the address used for registration won't be the shipping address. The current workflow causes a lot of trouble since user has to click on the change address after logging in or creating address. I have seen that some of my customers are confused with this and not completing the order after creating the account.

What I would like to have is to go to the select shipping address page directly after logging in or creating a new account. I have done quite a bit of searching in the forum but couldn't find anything helpful. It would be really helpful if someone can point me to some existing options or addons.

thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Forwarding to Select shipping address after logging in or creating new address

I have a florist shop and have a similar problem. I modified the \includes\english\checkout_shipping_address.php to inform customers that they need to change the shipping name and address. In addition, I modified the shipping address 'button'. to be more informative.

But I'm with you, it has to be clearer for customers like yours and mine.

I'd prefer to have the customer first be sent to a blank shipping address screen with the option to log in and pull in an already entered recipient first. On that page should be the gift-wrap option, the delivery date/time, the occasion, the gift card message and any special instructions. From there I'd like to get/confirm the customer billing details, then the credit card billing info. At this point the date reminder add-on module should automatically kick in and offer to remind the customer of the event.

After the holidays I'm going to start analyzing the flow and see how the checkout process can't be changed. Of course, any insights from anyone that has actually changed the program flow would be greatly appreciated since I know just enough to be dangerous.

Cheers,
Doug

I do agree wit Doug. The checkout process can be simplified with the mentioned approach.

It would be also good to inform the user about the steps go through for completing the order.

What may be a better idea or even an addition to your requirement, would be to have an "Amazon" style shipping address screen, where by all shipping addresses are stored in the database. Currently only one shipping address is stored.

Any thoughts?

Any news on this? As you can tell, I also have a gift business. FEC, COWOA and ESL mods help smoothen the process, but it would be great to customize the process for us gift shops. I'm willing to contribute to the development.

BTW, the choice of multiple shipping addresses does appear if the customer has more than one.

I'm looking to be able to add the shipping information on the registration page too. That would be fantastic.
