Browsing without creating account.

Hi.

When I set my site www.pjleisurewear.co.uk up I configured it to allow you to browse without creating an account. (I can't find the setting any more - was I dreaming?). This still seems to work in Firefox (my preferred browser) but something weird is going on in IE and related browsers.

From the Home page, open a main category, say Men's Clothing, then open a subcategory and then a product, you will be greeted by the log in page. Return to the Home page and try again - you willget the product page.

Can anyone please explain what is going on and how to correct it?

Right, I have to show my ignorance here - what's an iframe?

:blush:Right, I've done what I should have done and looked iframe up - it's an XHTML tag - not one I use - it must have originated with the guy who was building the site before he went AWOL.

I'm guessing that IE doesn't like it as it's not a fully compliant browser (unlike Firefox). Maybe IE 8 will help.

Am I right and is there anything I can do to end the irritation for my customers?

Seems to work OK for me in IE7. Did you fix this problem?

No, I haven't. It doesn't always happen which makes it all the more irritating.

Try Accessories/Bags. It's just done it there for me.

I've seen what you're talking about and the only thing I can figure is that the & signs and possibly some of the % signs in your text are confusing the system. Just your main page has 80+ warnings about code.

Often times, you can clear lots of problem simply fixing the code problems.

Thanks for that. Some of the errors I can see how to fix, others I can't, for instance the # symbol of a hex color code. Also, you say they are on the home page - I assume that means all the other files that come together to form the home page. How do identify the precise location of the error.

As a "quick and dirty" fix, I've put an explanation on the login page that if you don't want to create an account just hit your browsers back button and try again - that seems to correct it. It's not very elegant though!

As I said earlier, Firefox isn't affected

You should have the # codes in the stylesheet and not in the text. Most every spot I saw the # was in a div with a class or id that could be used in the stylesheet.

BTW, I use FF and it breaks for me:(

Thanks for that. My programming skills are very basic at the moment, so I'll tackle this as my knowledge grows.

Get two add-ons for firefox that will really help you. One is firebug and the other is the html validator.

These tools are invaluable when building or analyzing a cart.
