newbie/ using n editor to make some changes

Hi there, I was wondering if I can use my ftp clinet to so some of my editing. I would have to download (past and copy) the script to my hard drive and then make changes and then upload to the same file. Is this ok for editing as I cant for the life of me think of another way, as I have not done this before. thanks for your help

This the recommended method. And you need to use ONLY a plain text editor as php files are finicky and you do not want an editor that adds anything on its own
