Prices showing/not showing on Preview and Display pages arbitrarily

I am running ZenCart 1.3.8a. I am using the Lavender template found here. I installed this template at the beginning, when I first installed Zencart. I sell (and give away) downloadable content for a program called Poser.
When I first started setting up items to sell, the price would display at the top of the display page. The product type is whatever the first default product type was: uses product.
I've got a list of for-sale products in the Store aspect of my site. On the preview page - the one that comes up when you click on the Home :: Store link, some items show prices, some don't. The items I added last are not showing prices in either that preview page or on the display page that comes up when clicking the link.

I've checked all the attributes - comparing those of items whose prices don't show against those items whose prices do: no difference that I can see. They all belong to the same product group.

Has anyone encountered this before? Is there a way to fix it? Have I given enough information?

I've been struggling with this since last night, and I think it may have something to do with the fact that the items in question are assigned (not sure that's the right term) to two different Product Types... one of which doesn't show prices, I think. Is there some way to make those items just belong to the correct one: i.e., remove them from the wrong Product Type?

So you've entered some of your products into one product type and some into another? And you've then linked these products?

In admin, under Categories/Products, select one of the categories that contains products where the pricing works. At the bottom of the list there is a drop-down that says something like Product - General on it. Take note of what it says. Then go to one of the categories that contains products where the pricing doesn't work. What does that drop-down say now? If it's different, what happens when you change it to what the other one said? Do the prices work now?

(I'm asking questions instead of providing an answer because I've used only one product type in my stores, so I can't test this.)

You can also edit Product Types themselves, so you can show different things in different types. So maybe before changing types, you should look at the settings of your product types in admin/Catalog/Product Types and click on Edit Layout for the particular product type you wish to edit.

area selected. Was that what I was supposed to do? In any event:

is kinda what I get. I guess I've modified the ProductType names... was the first one Product - General? That's which productType all the displayed items in the above picture are part of. So, in this category are items that do work and that don't.

In my ProductType list are 5 ProductTypes:
All Products (free and to sell) -- was probably Product - General??
Store Items
Sales Item: All
Document - Product
Product - Free Shipping

I've got 40 items in my listings... all 40 are in the first ProductType. None are in the second and 3 are in the third (Sales Item: All). I'm suspecting these are the last entries and are in both Product Types... the first and the third...

I just checked your home page, and after doing several Refresh commands on it, I can see that just a few products are appearing without their prices. I looked at the code of the Home page (View Source in the browser) and can see that there is not an empty element where there should be a price. There's just nothing. Very odd.

But when I view the product info page for one of these products, and View Source, I find this...

...The price is in the Product Price block where it belongs, and there is no kludge used to show the price.

So, who put in the "Kludge to allow price display"? And where in the code is it? Maybe it should just be removed and you should enter the price as it was entered in the products that are working right. I bet that would solve the problem. :yes:

I sell product for other vendors, and they were upset that the price of their item wasn't showing on the display page, Rob. I entered that comment and price in the Product Description textarea - it's just basic HTML and I wanted to make sure that I knew which ones to remove it from - as a temporary solution until I found out why the prices weren't showing as they were meant to. Sorry about that, Rob... I should have mentioned this temporary fix to you.

I truly still think there's a link to those items who's prices don't show to the fact that they belong to another ProductType, though, don't you? Three items aren't showing a price, and 3 items belong to the Sales Item: All Product Type. How do I remove them from that type?

At this point, since there's only three of them, I'd just recreate them under the other product type, then delete them from this one. Probably faster than trying to figure out what's wrong.

That's what I ended up doing, Rob. I moved all the faulty items over to a non-enabled folder, then recreated the display pages from the info on the faulty pages. Good job there were only 3 that were wonky.
