formal request for a general target date of 1.3.9

Hello,
I know you said 1.3.9 was the last of the 1.3 series,
we have a few people that want us to upgrade them from 1.3.7 to 1.3.8 and we dont want to do that just to have 1.3.9 come out.

Is there a best guess on how long till 1.3.9 so we can determine if we need to do the upgrade now or wait till it comes out

Re: formal request for a general target date of 1.3.9

If I remember correctly, 1.3.9 was scheduled to be released sometime 'late 2008'.

Hmm.. not enough donations? Ha

Um, no, there was not going to be a v1.3.9 - it was going to go straight to v1.4. With the announcement of v2.0, the devs said there would be a "rollup" v1.3.9, no date mentioned yet.

Re: formal request for a general target date of 1.3.9

I'm wondering about 1.3.9 as well. We just updated our site with 1.3.8. Is it even going to to be worth upgrading to 1.3.9? What would be the benefit?

We might just rather wait until v2.0. But if there's a good reason for upgrading to 1.3.9 and there's going to be a substantial amount of time between 1.3.9 and v2, then maybe we would want 1.3.9, right?

Re: formal request for a general target date of 1.3.9

im not sure what is the reason for 1.39.. could it be to make the transition to 2.0 much easier ???

i know there has been few bugs in 1.38 that has been fixed in 2.0 but not made available as patch for 1.38..

personally , i can't wait for version 2.0 :cry: i really want to get to know this one better then i did with 1.38 specially the template system

It'll be out when it's ready. If that's before the beta, great. If not, so sorry.

im not sure what is the reason for 1.39.. could it be to make the transition to 2.0 much easierNot really. There have been a number of bug fixes to 1.3.8a and my understanding of 1.3.9 is that it simply makes them easily accessible in a release to which it is likely to be easy to upgrade - it being the same generation as the current Zen Cart.

The Zen Cart 2.0 announcement, the beta testing and even the version re-numbering points to it being a whole new generation, for which code upgrades will be more significant.

Upgrades to live sites will most likely need to be planned carefully and scheduled for quiet times of the year. Many will not be feasible until key mods have also been updated.

However the Dev Team have comitted to continue supporting the 1.3.x series for a while, so it makes sense to ensure that people who want to stay up-to-date with bug fixes and security patches are able to do so. That, I suspect, is what 1.3.9 is about.

The Zen Cart 2.0 announcement, the beta testing..

I like that idea. The sooner the beta, the faster the bugs get reported.. Maybe even some good suggestions, as 2.0 is still in its development process.

Release into beta too soon and the developers get overwhemed trying to work out which bug reports are duplicates of others and whether somebody else is working on them. This can really slow progress into production. It shouldn't go into beta until is near production quality and the number of bugs is expected to be small and manageable.

Also, beta is a testing phase, not a development phase. If new functionality (i.e. good suggestions) are added during beta testing, it either needs to go back for regression testing, or risks becoming unstable. Both of which are bad results. Suggestions for new functionality should be carried forward into the next release.
