How to add a custom product to basket?

Hi Everyone

I have searched the forum but cann't find a solution to this problem.

I am running Zen Cart 1.3.8 not upgraded.

Website is for a printing company that aswell as having standard fixed product, would like to add PVC printed banners and posters at custom sizes, so it can't be stored in database, i can make the php code that would calculate the cost based on the sizes provided by the customer but how would i then send that to the basket.
