Can't remove the congratulation message.

Hello.

This is my first time using Zen cart and for the last couple of days I've been trying to remove the" Congratulations! You have successfully installed your Zen Cart™ E-Commerce Solution. from my website. I've been pretty successful in editing the other stuff but I been totally unsuccessful in removing this message, I've tried everything, I followed all the instructions I found on zencart help and I researched other help sites (gave the same instructions) and I have removed and reinstalled zencart a couple of times (which means I have lost all the previous edits and have to start from the very beginning again.) Can someone help me?

I am using 1.3.8 version of zencart which I install via the fanstastico de luxe. My webhost uses Linux Servers and I have zero knowledge in html or css and relying on step by step instructions to edit the site.

this is our site. It's a new install and I haven't edited anything yet. I want to solve this problem first because this is the only problem I haven't managed to solve yet despite following the instructions I found here to the T.

I have removed and reinstalled zencart a couple of times (which means I have lost all the previous edits and have to start from the very beginning again.

That is the help guide I was talking which I used to edit the first couple of times and it didn't work.....now I am lost as what to do next because the tutorial won't work for me :frusty:

“Classic Contemporary Green” and trying to get rid of these lines and go through by this

How do I change the "Congratulations! you have successfully installed..." Message?
CAPITALIZED words refer to a folder or language that you choose. We use CUSTOM for your template and ENGLISH for your language by default. These generic terms should be change

If you edit the files in the /classic folders, all your changes will be GONE with the next update/upgrade.

This list is outdated, but it'll still serve as a guideline. To create a very basic custom template (you can build from there), you need:

• includes/languages/YOUR_TEMPLATE/english.php
• includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/index.php
• includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/meta_tags.php
• includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/header.php (to change the logo)
• includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/template_info.php
• includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/tpl_header.php <- may not be necessary
• includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/tpl_footer.php <- may not be necessary
• includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/images/logo.gif
• includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/css/stylesheet.css

Anywhere you see a /classic/ folder, you can create a folder for your custom template. You can copy the necessary files from either the /classic/ folder, the /template_default/ folder or the parent folder.

Edit includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/template_info.php to give your template identifying information so you'll recognize it in the admin under tools->template selection.

If that seems too much for you, go to http://(sorry, site offline)/ and see the free templates available for Zen Cart "in action". One of them might get you started on using the override system.

This guideline is fine for me and I now able to create folder for my template & use the same.

You refer this list as outdated can you please provide one updated list here which help the beginners like me to make his folder for the template one is going to use with the proper files he needs to make all necessary changes as and when needed

One more thing how can I get rid of the line “Congratulations You have successfully installed …………” . Do I have to edit this one?

I must have missed something. I did make the necessary changes and uploaded the file into languages/english/custom/index.php. It still loads the old index.php. Do I have to update something? http://www.ip-192.com/cart/

Is your custom template actually called custom?

I'm not sure. I downloaded it from the "Demo Site for Free Zen Cart Templates" (http://(sorry, site offline)/templates.html) and it's called Mostly Grey by Rowan.

I couldn’t find as well where to change the title “ZEN CART” and the “TagLIne Here”. I followed the recommended steps:
• copying the header;
• changing the define 'HEADER_SALES_TEXT' …;
• putting the file into /includes/languages/english/mostlygrey (my template name) without any success;
• for the title I haven't found the tag.

Replacing the “TagLIne Here” works today. I changed the text with Sharepoint Designer and not with the Notepad.

admin>tools>developers tool kit

Go to the bottom of the screen and enter the text you are looking for exactly as it's being displayed. Select where you want to look (function file look-ups) and you'll get back a list of matches.

I'm not familiar with Sharepoint Designer, but if it doesn't add extra white space to php files, you should be ok.

There's also lots of information about some of the basic edits in the Tutorials/FAQ (link at top of screen).

What are you using to edit these files???

php files should be edited in a "plain text" or code editor locally only and FTP'd after saving back to the server

I used to edit files with Sharepoint Designer. Yesterday I switched to Notepad ++ as recommended. I "saved as..." files already edited. There have been just three. Maybe I should do this with the "classic"-originals again. Because when I switch to "classic" or "mostlygrey" without any customization everything looks fine.

Notepad++ yesterday installed, works great, solved the problem!

"save as..." files don't fix the problem. I had to start from scratch using original files for customization.

Weird symbols, smashed design, unusual page behavior could be caused by editing without an appropriate notepad!
