Gift Certificate on Step 2 must select payment method ?

hi there,

I'm currently using gift certificate/gift voucher module and on payment information (Step 2) I have enough voucher balance to cover my entire purchase cost, but no matter what I have to enter/input my credit card details ?

For your information, I have disabled all payment module except for additional eWay payment module & zen cart free charge card.

So, during Step 2 of payment information, I only want to pay using my Gift Voucher Balance, and I do have enough credit to pay the entire payment, but the problem it keeps asking for my credit card details for my payment method.

Is this the way zen cart works ? So no matter what happen, the customers are required to select a payment method , for my case it would be the credit card payment since this is the only method that I have enabled on the payment module.

Did you already have a GV Balance or did you need to redeem code first to enter the balance when you were checking out?

Right now, if I have a GV Balance of $40.00 and an order for $29.99 I just enter the amount and can check out, without selecting a payment method ...

I do have enough balance to cover the entire payment, My GV balance is currently staying at 26.85$ and I have applied the amount of 10.15$ to cover the payment.
Afterwards, I pressed the "Continue to Confirm Order" button, however a pop up box appeared which says:

Errors have occurred during the processing of your form.
Please make the following corrections:

• The credit card number must be at least 10 characters.

I have also installed and enabled additional eWay payment module and enabled "The Zen Cart FREE CHARGE CARD" payment module.

Or perhaps, did I delete something from the PHP code without realizing it .....

any help guys ?

I have the same problem on our site and I think the code needs to be rewritten.

Perhaps a work around would be to have an payment option which reads "Use gift cerficicate" which is a duplication of "Pickup in store". This would get around the form validation. You'd also need to add a note near the gift cerficicate for users to click "Use gift cerficicate"in the payment options.

Zen Cart 1.3.8a

Hello I am having this same issue. Is there still no fix for this?
If the paypal payments pro module is enabled i can't continue without "The credit card number must be at least 10 characters." when using the gift certificate.
If i enter payment info and the gift certificate covers the full cost i can't continue because it give me a paypal error that you can't pay for something that is $0.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I am having the same problem with Zen Cart 1.3.8a and offline credit card processing and PayPal Express enabled. There's no way to go apply the gift certificate without choosing a payment method, even when you owe $0. Can this be fixed?

As a workaround, we're telling the customer to choose PayPal as the payment method.

Is there a way to add a "gift certificate" payment method to choose instead of "credit card" or "PayPal" when you don't owe any money? Extra work for the customer, but better than what's happening now. Thanks!

Are you getting the same results if you only have Credit Card Offline cc and/or Check/Money Order moneyorder installed ...

What I am trying to see is if this is only with the PayPal modules installed ...

NOTE: setting them to NOT Enabled is not the same thing as testing with them as REMOVED ...

I have removed the PayPal Express payment module entirely, and I'm trying to redeem a gift certificate.

I enter the total of my order into "Apply Amount" in the gift certificates area, then click "continue." I get a pop up error message that says, "Errors have occurred during the processing of your form. Please make the following corrections: * The credit card number must be at least 10 characters"

I also see this at top in red:

"The credit card number starting with was not entered correctly, or we do not accept that kind of card. Please try again or use another credit card."

and this in green:
"Congratulations, you have redeemed $50.00"

The same thing happens if I enter an amount and hit return instead of hitting continue.

It doesn't look like it has anything to do with PayPal.

The only way I can make it through checkout with a gift certificate that fully covers the amount is if I turn PayPal back on and choose PayPal as my payment method - then it lets me go to the next page without an error.

I get to the Payment Page and just enter the GV Amount to apply with nothing selected and click the Continue button and it accepts the payment via my GV account balance and I can go on without having selected any payment module ...

Are you using any add ons on the checkout? or SEO or rewrites or anything like that?

Yes! Good call. We're using the Simple SEO URLS (SSU) add-on. I would love any help on what to try next to sort this out. I'm thinking maybe we could modify the check/money order payment option to be called "Gift Certificate Balance" as a workaround, if it can't be fixed for real.

Glad your were able to solve the Gift Certificate issues due to the SEO/rewrites ... :smile:

As to how to fix them, I really couldn't tell you as I do not use these ...

I don't have the SEO add-on and I have the same issues. So far, I've just added a note to let people know to choose Paypal as the payment method so that they can continue. 1.3.8a with image handler add-on and super orders. I've made most of the 1.3.8 known bug fixes and all of the security ones listed in Ajeh's post above.
I do have Paypal Express and Auth.net AIM and check/mo payment modules installed.

I still cannot reproduce this issue ...

Is this a clean install of v1.3.8 or an upgrade?

One thing you might try is go to each of the Modules for Payment, Shipping and Order Total and save the settings to NotePad then do a REMOVE, INSTALL and reconfigure ...

It's an upgrade...I think I started with 1.3.5 as the clean install. I will test with the removed modules when traffic is low one of these nights. Flyout menu and easy populate also installed.

I seem to be having the same problem.

Credit Card is coming up as the default payment method when try to use a Gift Cert to pay for goods.

I even Disabled the Credit Card payment method in the Modules/Payments and it STILL came up, thus stopping the use of the GV.
Seems there are some errors in the code for the processing of the GV.

Where would be a good place to start looking ??
Which .php & what directory ?

I'd get something like Beyond Compare from scootersoftware.com and do a comparison of all files in a clean Zen Cart v1.3.8 with those on your server and see which might be out of date or customized and may be preventing things from working ...

NOTE: when not using a module, it is better to click on it and hit REMOVE than to just disable it ...

Thanks for the suggestion.

I have numerous added modules & alterations, so many I can't remember.

Comparing to a clean install isn't really going to help I feel as it is only the CV calling up this error, incidently I have only just enabled it for this particular module so no new hacks recently.
I have latest Zen updates.

I imagine there is something in the CV code that is parsing to always check the credit card reference.

Any ideas on which .php has the core of the CV code with the CC lines ?
