Two stores that share inventory but differnt prices

I would like to setup two zencart stores that share the same inventory count of products. however, one store will have discounts applied with salemaker while the other store wont have any discounts to the price.

however, it is imperative that when a product sells in one store it should subtract that inventory count from the other store.

I suspect you'd need to work with something similar to the concept mentioned here: http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=108743
However, making such changes would be very complex if the websites aren't on the same server, and preferably in the same database.
