Help with Complicated Shipping

If a customer purchases an item that is "Free Shipping", they would get free shipping when the item is sent Ground. But we would like to give customers the option to be able to choose 1, 2 or 3 day shipping. And if they choose a faster shipping method, Zen Cart be able to recalculate the price for shipping appropriately and accurately.

In addition to that, if someone buys an item in **one transaction **that is Free Shipping and that item will be shipped ground, and buys and item that requires a shipping charge, but would like to receive it next day, how can Zen Cart separate the two items to reflect the appropriate shipping method and price?

Wait, there's more!! We need to exclude states that are out of the 48 continental U.S. So this means that Canada and Hawaii would always be charged shipping even on items that are Free Shipping.

I know this is a huge issue, and I would be SO GRATEFUL to anyone who can at least point us in the right direction.

Thank you.

Re: Help with Complicated Shipping

What shipping method(s) are you using now for regular Products that are not Free Shipping?

Re: Help with Complicated Shipping

This can be done, but it takes a lot of customization ...

I am guessing you are using Always Free Shipping YES as the trigger ...

However, that is for everyone not just some people ...

Always Free Shipping YES is designed to reduce the: Weight, Item Count and Price for shipping ...

When the Always Free Shipping YES product is the only in the cart, then it is designed to "hide" or disable all other shipping modules and only show the Free Shipping freeshipper shipping module ...

More or less what you are wanting to do is reverse how this is managed ... how hard is that? :lamo:

How bad do you need this feature?

How good are you at customizing code?

Re: Help with Complicated Shipping

Ajeh,

You are correct on your guess. And I was afraid that you were going to say that it would take a lot of customization.

To answer your questions 1 and 2

  1. I'm not exactly sure how "bad" we need it... but we really really want it, as you can see there is a conflict between, YES, Always free Shipping and and other shipping methods.

  2. I can customize code if there are instructions! As far as creating and doing stuff like that, my expertise is a big fat ZERO :(

I guess we would just need to hire a programmer????

Re: Help with Complicated Shipping

That would probably be the best thing ...

Either using the Always Free Shipping and customizing that or using your own field to manage Free Shipping for a given Zone ...

Either way ... it would take some thought to make this work and a coder would be a good idea if you are not well verse in something like this ...
