Urgent: 1054 Unknown column 'c.parent_id' in 'on clause'

Hi,

My website was working fine but suddenly it gave me this error. What does it mean?

1054 Unknown column 'c.parent_id' in 'on clause'
in:
[SELECT c.categories_id as id, c.parent_id, cd.categories_name as cName, cd2.categories_name as pName FROM zen_categories c, zen_categories_description cd LEFT JOIN zen_categories_description cd2 ON c.parent_id=cd2.categories_id AND cd2.language_id='1' WHERE c.categories_id=cd.categories_id AND cd.language_id='1']

Re: Urgent: 1054 Unknown column 'c.parent_id' in 'on clause'

This is normally attributed to a bug in Ultimate SEO Urls and the advice is usually to get rid of the module. However, I've just had a client report this same error after he had uploaded product data with Magnetic One's Store Manager (commercial add-on).

I discovered that by going to Admin > configuration >SEO URLS and

  1. turning OFF "Add category parent to beginning of URLs"

  2. resetting the SEO Cache (down at the bottom)

  3. turning "Add category parent to beginning of URLs" back ON

that the problem cleared...the first time!

After a second test, the only way to get rid of the error was to leave Add category parent to beginning of URLs" set to False.

Obviously there is something about the way that Store Manager sends the data that isn't read correctly by Ultimate SEO ... or it could be that Store Manager (which I am not familiar with) may need to be set up differently on the user's pc.

However, the point of this message is that here is one solution to this problem

Re: Urgent: 1054 Unknown column 'c.parent_id' in 'on clause'

This worked for me as well. Keep in mind that like most of you, I didn't make any upgrades.....and I am on a dedicated server so I didn't upgrade anything related to CPanel, WHM, or MySQL.

The only way to get it to work was to make "Add category parent to beginning of URLs" set to FALSE in my configuration. That seems to have resolved things for now. Will have to keep an eye on it, because this little "downtime" cost a lot of money in sales!
