Handling fee as seperate line item on order and invoice

I have seen several questions regarding showing the handling fee as a seperate line item but I just am not following I guess.

I have the handling fee $2.00 text on the site but the owner wants it listed as a seperate line item in the checkout/invoice/order email.
Is there a certain post that describes in detail how to do this? Or can someone help me out with it? I have tried the methods in several post but nothing seems to work.

I am running ver 1.38.
