Is Paypal IPN return link mandatory?

Hi,
I've just encountered a problem with having to put the return link into the Paypal IPN on the paypal site.

We have just started using a second online system (WHMCS) for our domains and hosting account invoicing, registrations, renewals, etc.. That system requires that there be NO url in the IPN return link.

Yet Zencart requires a return link in the IPN.

Is there another way around having to put a return link in Paypal for the IPN for Zencart?

Not really, zencart will send the return url to paypal everytime the order is checked out.

There does have to be a URL on the PayPal site in order for that to work.
