Drop menu for Sub Categories ONLY?

Totally Zenned

I'm trying to find a way to have my site work the way its being requested without having my Category box a mile long:(.

Is it possible to have the top Cat work normally but when it opens to Sub-Cats they show in a Drop Menu or Scroll Box?

They are wanting me to list Comics by their series title.
So I have top Cats titled By Title A, By Title B, By Title C.....

Under A could be Amazing Spider-Man, Angel, ....... which could lead to a really long list especially when it comes to certain letters like S.

Any suggestions on how to have this work but not have a endless lft box?

Thanks!
