Creating more than one sale or Specials group at a time

Is it possible to create more than one group or specials section at a time.

My client would like to be able to have a 'Christmas sale' to discount their Christmas stock but also have a second sale or specials section that discounts other items.

If I add items to the 'specials' is there a way of further differentiating them?

Thanks
