Pricing based on square footage

We have about 12 products that are all sold by the sq. ft. Each product has it's own price unique per sq. ft. The site will ask for the length and the width as well as which product. It will then calculate the total cost (sq. ft. x number of products needed). Can this be done in 1.3.8a? Or perhaps in 2.0? Or perhaps not at all?

Any ideas?

Re: Pricing based on square footage

You would need to do some customization as the Attributes are not dependent on one another for this kind of relationship ...

Re: Pricing based on square footage

Can you please expand on the "customization"? Is it "store" or db or both?

Re: Pricing based on square footage

You would need to customize the code and may need to add on to the database ...

You are trying to take the values selected on the Attributes that to "you" mean physical sizes to make a calculation ...

Now, that would have to be translated in the code to calculate the prices in the same way you are doing this in your head ...

Re: Pricing based on square footage

Thanks. I take this to mean, that is not going to be a "simple" process. I am not thoroughly skilled in pgp/sql, but I am not new either. Is it something you think a person with above avg intellect can manage?

Well ... you have a shot at it ...

You need to somehow evaluate the selected values of the options_id and options_values_id or ... evaluate the input of TEXT from these, depending on how you are setting your Attributes up ...

We'd be interested in your results on this ...

Thanks. Do you think I will be better off waiting until v2.0 is released?

Re: Pricing based on square footage

Zen Cart v2.0 is going to be a beta version ... that means don't use it on a Live Shop for a long time until:

1 out of beta

2 has been out and working for people for a good month

This translates to ... I'd work on a solution for v1.3.8a for now ...

Re: Pricing based on square footage

Hi. I'm just starting my site and have the same area problem except that I also need thickness. optionally, I could just enter thousands of individual items. I can add a thickness option to reduce the burden 10 fold or so, but even that won't work because weight is not allowed to calculate by percentage. This is very important because shipping is 30% of cost or more. Has anyone found a clever way to change the weight calc to do this?
The sad thing is that I have done (quite primatively) all that is needed to do this in MySQL and php on a prototype site, but would then not be able to interface it into the zencart backend.

Re: Pricing based on square footage

I have found the the mod you need and it is available here apparently it will calculate the cost in 3 dimensions as well. I have downloaded it and it calculates perfectly.
