Different size images per sub cat?

Is it possible to edit the code somewhere so that I can adjust the image size used in different sub-categories? I know we can set a size in Admin, but its not working for ALL of my images in different categories. Some then end up being too big or too small and since we had quite a few, I'd like to be able to edit the code instead of messing with all of the images.

It would be possible, but not dead simple. You would get better quality image display if you make all of the thumbnails the exact pixel size you want them to show at, and set the admin sizes to fit the largest of those. What I do is define the width and make the height blank. The smaller ones will then be their own sizes and all will be good (see my site as an example).

Well, the problem is the pics that need to be larger are fine, but then that enlarges some images that should NOT be larger. If it were the other way around it would be no problem. If I shrink the larger images to match the smaller ones, then you can't even see what they are.
I've considered trying to put a transparent box around the small ones to make them the same size, but then there is so much space inbetween them!
These were the images made and used on my old osC site and I hate to lose them or have to do much editing to them.

It was a long time ago that I made these settings, and my memory was not exact. Here are the settings I have in Configuration > Images:
Small Image Width 200
Small Image Height 150

Image - Product Listing Width 200
Image - Product Listing Height 0

Yeah, but these aren't product images they are sub category graphics. I have found a new image and just finished editing them. I have to leave them as .png so that the transparent background will save. They are in boxes that fit the size (300) of the images that are made for a different catagory so that I can keep my Genre graphics and not have my other cat graphics the size of a pea.:dontgetit

Genre graphics are smaller in the 1st level page but once clicked on a sub cat, it enlarges on that genre's page.
Title graphics were fine on the 1st level, but were too big and distorted on the enlarged page.

Oops, yes you did say subcategories. The images are looking ok now (except that they are overlapping in my 1024x768 monitor).

I have a wide monitor on my desktop and my notebook so its hard for me to catch these things :(

The Genre category listing in particular - all of the main cats that have large image files.

You seem to have subcat images set to 200px wide; at 1024px screen width, the center column has about 534px available. 600 doesn't fit neatly into 534.
