Qty & totals only for shopping cart sidebox

I couldn't find a solution to my problem, so I'm hoping someone could help me. I'd like my shopping cart sidebox to only should the # of items in cart & price totals.

Right now it's showing "1productname - line divider - $xx".
I'd like to change that to "1 item / $xx".

Also, I've already replaced the Shopping Cart header to show as an image, rather than text. My image is "View Cart" so I'd want it to float left and be on the same line as the "1 item / $xx".

If someone could help me out, that'd be great!! Thanks!!

[edit] Oh, but now that I've added a different product, it's listing them. I'd like just one one total quantity for the whole order (e.g. 2 items, not 1 button, 1 bag).
