Can I shorten the breadcrumb to just the current page?

Hi there,

i was just wondering how i make it so that instead of displaying the full breadcrumb it just displays the current page.

So instead of

Home > accessories > shoes > nancy

its just

Nancy

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks

Why would you want to do that? The breadcrumb is designed to ease navigation. If it's just the product the customer is viewing, it's pointless as far as I can see.

Re: Can I shorten the breadcrumb to just the current page?

If you don't like the breadcrumb, you can simply turn the whole thing off in the Admin> Configuration> Layout Settings> BreadCrumb Status

Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

Re: Can I shorten the breadcrumb to just the current page?

What you're asking for doesn't make sense.
Why are you dumping the breadcrumb?
And why display the page title again when it's already on the page?

Re: Can I shorten the breadcrumb to just the current page?

All i want to be able to do is JUST have the title of the page rather than the breadcrumb ?

is this possible?

how does that not make sense.

I understand the breadcrumb already shows the current page. But i dont want the WHOLE breadcrumb displayed.

Re: Can I shorten the breadcrumb to just the current page?

As DrByte said, the title of the page will still be displayed if you turn off the breadcrumbs.

For example, on the Holzheimer's site in my sig, if I go into vintage->actresses->Mae West, I get the breadcrumb "Home :: Vintage :: Actresses :: Mae West". Below that, is the title "Mae West". Why would I want my breadcrumb to say "Mae West" right above the title "Mae West"? Not to mention that in tabbed browsing, the tab also says "Mae West".

Someone shopping on the site decides he/she doesn't want a photo of Mae West, but wants to backtrack to actresses or vintage or the home page, the breadcrumb will allow that navagation without having to use the category sidebox.

Re: Can I shorten the breadcrumb to just the current page?

Perhaps your whole discussion would make more sense if you were to give us a URL of where your concerns can be seen, along with an explanation of why you want to move something around, and where you want it.

Always best to explain what you desire to accomplish, and invite suggestions. Sometimes that's better than jumping to a certain conclusion that might not be the best approach, and can confuse the issue.

Re: Can I shorten the breadcrumb to just the current page?

Hey guys, sorry about that i should have given an example.

http://bshop.office.bunkermedia.co.nz/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_4&products_id=4

Here is the link.

bassically what i want to have is where the breadcrumb is i want just the name of either the page or product.

like you can see here http://briarwood.co.nz/mimi

Im considering including a breadcrumb but our client didnt like the idea of it when we presented it to her with one.

The next / prev / listing buttons i think will be enough.

Hope this is a bit more help ? any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Can I shorten the breadcrumb to just the current page?

The product name is already displayed on the page. You've relocated it ot the right-hand column and made it small.

In the original template it is intended to be H1 text and to appear above the product image.

This is the code that displays it:```

<!--bof Product Name--> <h1 id="productName" class="productGeneral"><?php echo $products_name; ?></h1> <!--eof Product Name--> ```

Perhaps putting that code back above the product image will reinstate the display for you.

If you still need it elsewhere, feel free to duplicate it. But I recommend you don't wrap it in H1 tags elsewhere, since H1 tags are intended to show only once per page, and search engines use them to identify primary content.

Re: Can I shorten the breadcrumb to just the current page?

I'm not sure what "title" you're referring to. But, I suspect that if you look at the original template, using the H1 might be a good starting point.

You'll also find that if you set up a site that uses the default template, without any customizations, you'll be able to see how things normally look, as well as what info is available to the page. Then, armed with that info, you can fix your customizations accordingly.
