download folder - .htaccess file

Hi there!

I was checking a store friend, and I notice that she don't have the file .htaccess in her download folder.

I ask here about this... and she said don't delete it... and said that she create the download folder.

I check her files and are available to anyone to download, is not protected.

My question is: all the .htaccess from the download folders are the same? can I upload my .htaccess from my download folder to her download folder and will work ok?

thanks in advance...

If the .htaccess file says this>>>

#prevent directory browsing -- for security
IndexIgnore */*

AuthType Basic
AuthName "No access"
AuthUserFile .htnopasswd
AuthGroupFile /dev/null
Require valid-user

Then use it.

If not, create a .htaccess file and put the above code into it.

Without knowing much more about your server and hers and the contents of the file - can not make a determination

You can try it and if there is an issue delete it

thank you very much!

Look at what Kobra says... Some servers do not work if there is .htaccess file in a directory.

Please check that your server uses .htaccess.

(Quick way is to look in other folders for .htaccess files. If they exist in other folders, your server is happy to use them.)

You could of course also check the original files ... https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=323

Also, keep in mind that every host configures their server restrictions differently ... so some hosts may disallow the use of some statements in .htaccess files on their server. If you get errors after altering/uploading .htaccess files, you may have to talk to the hosting company to deal with their unique configuration requirements. (This is kinda what kobra was referring to.)

very helpfull guys
thanks a lot!
