Attributes Pricing and Qty Discount

I'm using v1.3.8a now, and have used Zen Cart for three years, but I'm finally trying to do something really complicated and I'm getting all balled up!

The Scenario: I have a Product (a downloadable datafile) that comes in 52 flavors (50 states plus DC and PR), and each flavor comes in the buyer's choice of two formats (MDB and CSV -- both zipped). And every state is priced differently (depends on number of records in the dataset).

My customers may have need of the Alaska dataset in MDB format, the California dataset in CSV, Puerto Rico in MDB, etc. And they get a quantity discount -- %30 off when they buy 3 or 4 of these files; 50% off for 5 or more.

Ideally, this is a single product with 104 separate attributes. Of course, this would mean that the quantity discount would be counting Attributes selected, not Products selected.

Is this even possible? :unsure:

I have been experimenting: Option name for each state, option value for each file format/download file/price; Enable qty discount Yes; priced by attributes. Using checkboxes so customer can select as many states and formats as they want. But can't get quantity discount working. Also, the "Starting at" line adds up ALL of the states' prices instead of the displaying the cheapest state; and if I NO the Include In Base Price element, it displays nothing (just "Starting at " with no amount).

I know I'm doing something awfully horribly wrong!

Re: Attributes Pricing and Qty Discount

Hello,

We are also using Zen Cart version 1.3.8, and we have a similar question. We have sold CDs on our web store for over a year now, and are just getting ready to add downloadable tracks and CD's to the site. We wish to offer each of our downloadable CDs as a separate product, with each of the songs on the CD offered as individual attributes with checkboxes. That, I was able to set up after reading through a LOT of forums and tutorials. (Thanks so much for all the valuable instructions and advice!) However, we would like to offer the customers the option of buying individual tracks for $1.50 each or the whole CD for $18 ($1.20 per track). I tried setting that up by setting the base price to $0.00, choosing to price by attribute, then using the quantity discount and clicking "Yes" we did wish the discount quantity to apply to mixed attributes. Unfortunately, that did not have the desired effect. If a customers clicks on all fifteen CD tracks (attributes) and adds them to the cart, the quantity discount is not applied. I looked all through the forums and tutorials again, saw the recommended fix for a similar problem ("Fix is in includes/classes/shopping_cart.php. Add the line

reset($check_contents);

immediately below line 1436 in 1.3.8a and 1430 in 1.3.7.1"), and we tried that. Still no success.

Ideally, what we would like to be able to do is set up the fifteen tracks as individual attributes, then add another attribute entitled "Select All." If that "Select All" option is chosen, we would want it to automatically click all the other attributes. We would also want to give it a negative price (-4.50), so that it would automatically deduct the $0.30 per track to give the customer the proper price for ordering and downloading the whole CD. Does anyone know if what we want to do is possible?

The rest of our site is operating beautifully, so we would prefer to be able to add this new feature without disrupting the smooth operation that we've already established. Right now, we have the only downloadable CD we've added disabled because of these pricing difficulties. If it would be helpful to see it up and running, we can enable it upon request.

Thanks So Much!
