Commission Junction Banner Ads

I use banner ads from Commision Junction. I once read you must use the code CJ gives you in its entirety or you may no be rewarded for any traffic you send to the banner owner. I can not find that wording at CJ anywhere anymore.

I know ZenCart has the ability to use the tag provided by CJ but you can not track clicks using the tag and I want to track clicks as a means of auditing what's really going on.

I am sure there are other folks here who use CJ or folks like them for banner ads. Am I remembering this wrong or are you guys splitting the tag into the essential pieces and making sure you can see the accounting data for clicks sent.

If you use the HTML for the banner, Zen Cart does not record the clicks ... that is why you have the stats with your advertiser ...

If you use a banner, then the clicks are recorded ...

I do know I can look at my CJ account to see transaction activity. I wanted to use Zen Cart to verify what CJ has.

Did I remember correctly that a publisher has to use the html provided by CJ without modification or the clicks may not be recorded by CJ correctly?

I have not used them in years but when I did, all code had to be the code supplied by them ...

You may modify the following link code on the Get HTML and Get JavaScript interfaces using the available features.

Destination URL: Enables you to change the Destination URL within an advertiser's link code in order to increase conversions. Advertisers provide publishers with permission to change the Destination URL on a per-link basis.

Banner Image URL: Enables you to customize a banner’s image to better suit your web site(s). Advertisers provide publishers with permission to change the Image URL on a per-link basis.

Add SID: Enables you to add the Shopper ID (SID) to an advertiser's link code.

Hyperlink Placement in Text Link: Enables you to modify the placement of the hyperlink in a text link (JavaScript links only). The Text Hyperlink text field displays with the Advertiser’s designated Program URL by default, unless the advertiser has not assigned it, in which case the text field appears blank.

What I think the above says is, "As long as the link goes to CJ and they forward it on to the correct page it counts, so modifying the html to work with Zen Cart should work okay. YMMV
