Alphabetical categories but the subcategories are not. Link inside

Hi all, just altering some stuff & the categories on the left are alphabetical which is fine, but the sub categories inside are not. I ubderstand that th ID inside the admin might have something to do with it but how can I just rearrange the sub categories so they are alphabetical ubder the main category please?

Not sure what is causing your categories sorting, but all of my top cats have sort orders and follow them; all of the subcats and sub-subcats have "0" sort order and display alphabetically.

I haven't seen any settings that would alter that for the categories sidebox.

Re: Alphabetical categories but the subcategories are not. Link inside

Let me show whats happening a bit better

http://www.cyclespares4u.co.uk/catalog/index.php

If you click the link above & look at the 1st category on the top left (BMX Helmets) you will see it is arranged:

Bell
Giro
DB
MET
Other

In my inventory the categories have all got 0 sort orders & they are sorted in alphabetical in admin.

I think is the category ID which is sorting the order on the live site.

ID's are as follows:
Bell (ID 263)
Giro (ID 265)
DB (ID 264)
MET (ID 266)
Other (ID 277)

Now if the ID's are in order from 263 to 277 then the categories would be in alphabetical order - yes?

Thats what I think anyway, but I can't seem to find how to change it :frusty:

Help please  ?

Thanks all

Use the Sort Order to setup your Categories the way you want to ...

Number them by 10s or 100s so that you have room in the future for easy inserts ...

I know how to put numbers in for sort order & it will work in admin, but it will not work out on the live site? They still arranged by ID number - The main categories are correctly displayed, its the sub category in side thats messed up. I don't get it :dontgetit

Re: Alphabetical categories but the subcategories are not. Link inside

The sort order is working to a certain degree - I swap & change the sort order & the sub categories will sort as I want them in the middle of the page. Its just the column down the left hand side - they are stuck solid & refuse to move. I have made the shop live so you can have a look if needed

http://www.cyclespares4u.co.uk/catalog/index.php

The sub categories in the left column are still being sorted by their ID number - Can't I change the ID number?

Thanks

What happens if you use the normal Categories sidebox ... do they sort correctly?

Nothing? - Is it possible that the left column is controlled by something else? I was reading another post about not displaying sub categories. It reads:

If you don't want your top category's list of subcats to show on the home page, go to admin > Configuration > Layout Settings > Categories - Always Show on Main Page and set to 0.

I did this & it doesnt even switch of the sub categories - they are just plain stubborn.

I know nothing about relates to sorting the order, but I just wanted to see if it hid them.

The main categories seem to index alphabetical - I have forced the lights & computers to the bottom by starting them with a Z

I cannot reproduce this issue on my site ...

I can sort my categories on any level and rearrange them without a problem in the default code ...

I am not sure if one of your add ons or overrides is causing an issue here ...

I think I would have to see your code as I believe you have an add-on or something overriding the default code and altering the normal sort methods ...

Perhaps someone is more familar with what you are using and can help you sort it out ...

The expanded categories mod you are using has styling tags that are completely unrelated to stock Zen Cart tags, and I expect that the rest of the sidebox code is unique too, and has none of the standard setting controls built into its display logic. Which mod are you using?

I'll ask the guy who did it for me, I thought all the menus & that would be able to be controlled by myself. Anyway in the meantime I got you a couple of coffees - cheers for now:cheers:

I'll update soon
