Creating sub-categories after the fact.

Hi. I am currently running version 1.3.8a. I don't see an answer to this in the FAQ.

Question: Once you have set up a Category and started to populate with Products, there appears to be no way to then set up a sub-category after you have populated your main category it with products.

I realized after I started to populate my categories with products that I needed to set up sub-categories within each of the main categories (Brand specific subs). I am assuming there is a way to do this and then all I would need to do is move each of the existing products into the new proper sub-categories.

I am hoping that this is the case otherwise I will have to start from scratch an delete what I have and re-populate.

Keeping my fingers crossed:bigups:

Re: Creating sub-categories after the fact.

There are several ways of doing this.

You can make the changes directly in the database, but I wouldn't recommend that unless you really know what you're doings.

You could export all your products using Easy Populate. Drop your products. Re-arrange your category structure in the export spreadsheet and then re-import it.

Or you could create your new sub category for the products somewhere else. Move your products to it using the "m" buttons in the categories/products page in the Admin and then once the original category is empty, move the new category (now containing the products) into it. You're then free to create move sub categories at the same level.

Re: Creating sub-categories after the fact.

Thanks for the help.
I was getting a little concerned because I had entered so many products in and didn't want to re-do the data entry.
I appreciate your help.
