What are the Standard Features of ZenCart?

I have been searching everywhere on this forum and on the website in general and can not seem to the standard list of features ZenCart has "out of the box". There is some briefly mentioned on the home page, but there is no way to see the "and more" part.

I need a fast replacement for X-cart.
I'm very familiar with Oscommerce, and I know ZenCart's file structure is very similar.

What we need is:

  1. Google Checkout capability
  2. PayPal payment capability
  3. Merchant account capability
  4. Each page of the cart (category page, sub-category page, individual product page, etc) needs to be able to have it's own: Page Title, Meta description, Meta keywords, etc.
  5. Cross Promotions/Upsell ability [thumbnail and text link]
  6. Unlimited products
  7. Multiple detail images per product
  8. Stats tracking: which products have the most views/most bought, which categories have the most views/most bought, how they were referred, etc. This would be very similar to Oscommerce's Supertracker add-on.
  9. 1-2 page checkout procedure [none of these payment choice on one page, shipping choice on another page, etc.]
  10. Customer can choose whether or not to register in order to buy. [registering is not a requirement]
  11. Mailing list/newsletter capability
  12. Would need to be able to import database from X-cart store that has nearing 4,000 products (we're adding more daily).
  13. Upgrading/updating Oscommerce core and contributions was a nightmare, hence why I'm not recommending it to my client. How easy is it to upgrade the core cart code and/or any of the addons as needed? Is there a strict set of rules addons must follow in order to be accepted for inclusion for ZenCart? Oscommerce's addons were fairly unrestricted - like a free-for-all.

I'm sure there are more, but that is what comes to mind.

Which of these are standard for ZenCart "out of the box" and which of these would I have to do an add-on for?

Thanks so much for your help!

Re: What are the Standard Features of ZenCart?

There's an FAQ article detailing the features of the Zen Cart v1.3.x series: https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=116

3rd party modules are fairly unrestricted and it is the users responsibility to "merge" features from any 2 or more modules that touch the same file as another.

Re: What are the Standard Features of ZenCart?

Thanks, DrByte .... for some reason, I couldn't get to that page.

However, it also does not answer all my questions I had posted.

  1. Is there capabilities to have multiple images per product (the large images on the product's individual page) ?

  2. The importing of inventory database from an x-cart store.

  3. How many steps are there to checkout?

  4. Do customers have to register in order to buy?

Things like that.

I'm assuming that Google Checkout is an addon ???

Is there a list of merchant services that are supported? Need to know if the one my client uses is supported.

Thanks again! I do appreciate everyone's help. Just want to make sure my client doesn't lose any of the features they currently have in their store.

    Builtin through a naming convention
  1. The importing of inventory database from an x-cart store.
Totally depends upon on how adept you are at DB structure and mysql - - but there is no auto import routine published
  1. How many steps are there to checkout?
    Default is "3"
  1. Do customers have to register in order to buy?
    Default is Yes

I'm assuming that Google Checkout is an addon ???
Yes and for most other items you can do your homework and look at what is available in the free software addon area

Is there a list of merchant services that are supported? Need to know if the one my client uses is supported.
There are also several 3rd party merchant gateway modules available for downloading

Re: What are the Standard Features of ZenCart?

Kobra,

Thanks so much. That does help greatly.

Despite the fact that is looks like I'll have to do a lot of customizing (addons) in order to the get the basics, since I'm familiar with Oscommerce, I should be able to do that quite easily.

I've heard ZenCart is more stable, and better put together than Osc ... hence why I'm here.

Good enough!
