attribute copy to global feature

Hi

Is there a way to copy attibutes across all my product range. I can see the copy to product and the copy to category feature but I can not seem to find the copy to global option that is suggested in the sticky notice at the top of the forum.

Can anyone suggest where I can find it.

I had thought about using the option value copy to global feature but that does not help unless the attibute name is already on the product.

To category is the most sweeping option....
How many top level categories can one have??

The copy to category does not copy to subcategories so you have to copy to every category. At the moment I have over 100 categories so a way of doing global changes would be useful.

My prefered option is to be able to select multiple categories to make the changes to as this would enable me to take some of the strain off the server - I will have over 12,000 products once everything is uploaded.
