Returns/Voids for Linkpoint not working

I am trying to make a full refund from admin. I complete the prompts (amount of refund, last digits of customer's cc, and the original transaction id). I check the "Confirm your intent" box and click "Do Refund" button. The screen appears to refresh. Otherwise, nothing changes.

I gave the system several minutes and refreshed the screen and still no update information posted in comments or elsewhere. I check the linkpoint central reports area for a refund transaction and none was listed. I checked again 24 hours later, still no refund transaction.

After 36 hours I initiated another refund..... still no transaction recorded.

Anybody run into this and have a solution?

Re: Returns/Voids for Linkpoint not working

If you have an addon installed that changes the code in the /admin/orders.php file such that the refund options aren't processed, then ... your refunds won't happen.
Maybe you have old mods installed?

Yes, I recall some mods in that file. I'll do a winmerge with the original downloaded files and see what I can find. Thanks for the guidance!

I Winmerged to compare the modified admin/orders.php file against the original and although there are some changes, I don't detect any that should affect the refund function. Here are the changes in the admin/orders.php file:

  • RL1 adds new line at start of order comments in emails.
  • RL2 eliminates unneeded tax columns from invoice. Related files also revised: /admin/order.php; /admin/invoice.php, /admin/includes/languages/english/invoice.php; /admin/includes/languages/english/orders.php
  • RL3 changes default notify customer to false
  • Time Zone Offset 1.3.7 2007-01-02 gilby

RL1 add new line to order comments in email:

// BEGIN RL1 to provide new line for start of email order update comments
//            $notify_comments = EMAIL_TEXT_COMMENTS_UPDATE . $comments . "\n\n";
              $notify_comments = EMAIL_TEXT_COMMENTS_UPDATE . "\n" . $comments . "\n\n";
            }

part of Time Zone Offset contribution:

         $db->Execute("insert into " . TABLE_ORDERS_STATUS_HISTORY . "
                      (orders_id, orders_status_id, date_added, customer_notified, comments)
                      values ('" . (int)$oID . "',
                      '" . zen_db_input($status) . "',
             date_add(now(), INTERVAL " . TIME_ZONE_OFFSET . " HOUR),
                      '" . zen_db_input($customer_notified) . "',
                      '" . zen_db_input($comments)  . "')");
          $order_updated = true;
        }

I use Linkpoint and have to do a cc refund. Did you get this to work? If not, what is your workaround?

Thanks,
Kim

No, this issue was never resolved. I'll admit I have not pursued a fix for some time now, finding that signing into the Linkpoint (FirstData) Virtual Terminal and processing a "Return" works okay for me.

A resolution to the original problem would be a high priority if we had a lot of refunds to issue.

If you use the Linkpoint Virtual terminal, select "Return" from the menu on the left side. You will need the order number (the one that Zencart generated for transmitting to Linkpoint.... it will have your original order number followed by a hyphen and about 6 additional scrambled characters. You can find this number on your order details page in ZenCart. Locate the "Payment Details" section (grey background area) . The first item on the left side is the Linkpoint Order ID:. Use that number to locate the payment record in Linkpoints Virutal Terminal. A form will appear prefilled with the original order details. This is fine if you are making a full refund, however if you are making a partial refund (for instance, if you are refunding $3.00 of a $12.00 order) then you want to enter the amount you are refunding..... not the adjusted amount: enter $3, not $9.00. It's easy to get tripped up on this part of the process.

Re: Returns/Voids for Linkpoint not working

I'm having the same issue with both the void transaction and refund transactions in linkpoint admin (zencart) It's getting to be a pain in the rump to have to do this manually when it needs to be done. Can't someone Please figure out how to fix this?

Re: Returns/Voids for Linkpoint not working

I don't know about others, but in my case I have to go online to the First Data (Linkpoint) Virtual terminal to get the last 4 digits of the credit card to enter on the ZenCart page anyway. While there (at Linkpoint) its easier to just go ahead and process the refund. Of course this doesn't document the refund automatically in the order details comments section of ZenCart so I still have to write some notes to keep track of things.

I suspect this feature doesn't work (perhaps never did). Does anyone have refunds and voids working with Linkpoint on their website? If so what version of ZC and the Linkpoint module?

Re: Returns/Voids for Linkpoint not working

ZC 1.3.8a
upraded from ZC 1.3.7 then from 1.3.8
numerous add-ons:

Add Customers from Admin
Capitalize Signup Fields v1.3.5 1-0c
editor_fckeditor_2.5
Email Archive Manager 1.4
Local Sales Tax Module
Master Password Crypted
offsite_payment_v1-0
popup_print_invoice_v1.1
Recover Cart Sales
Sales Report
sales_tax_summary_report_2-0
Short Description 1.1 for 1.3.5
time_zone_offset_v1-3-8a
ty_package_tracker_for_x_2-3a
zen_lightbox_1-4-UPDATED
Ty_UPS_Worldship10_v1
Template installed: ZenTemplates-Butterfly Series 12

Hosting: ICDSoft

Not sure when problem first ocurred. Noticed first time the feature was used which was sometime well after ZC v1.3.8a installed.

A forum thread was started on this issue on 26 May 2008. see: http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=98652 .

Since that time others have joined in to report the same problem. The issue for us has never been resolved.

The linkpoint payment module appears to work in all respects except for handling voids and returns. Data for the fields involved can be entered however clicking on the appropriate button ('Do Refund' or 'Do Void') causes screen to change back to the order list screen. The void or refund is never picked up by Linkpoint.

There is a possibility that the problem may be associated with the Ty Package Tracker add-on. I am polling the posters on the above mentioned forum thread to see if that add-on is common to others with the same problem.

Re: Returns/Voids for Linkpoint not working

No one has responded that they had Ty Package Tracker. Apparently that's not the common link.

THANK YOU! I was having this same issue with Paypal Express Checkout. From the order admin page the Void, Capture, and Return functions were not working. Clicking the button would cause the browser to look as if it was processing but then it would return to the order list with no change, and no errors or log entries.

I DO have the Ty Package Tracker installed so I went into the /includes/filenames.php and changed:

define('FILENAME_ORDERS', 'tracker');

back to the original

define('FILENAME_ORDERS', 'orders');

Once I made the change and saved the file, the functions started working in the order page. The main difference is now to use the tracking feature I have to invoke Customers => Add Tracking ID

Re: Returns/Voids for Linkpoint not working

KMF

Wow that is a great lead. I'll check into that after the holidays. Much too busy to do it now.

First chance I get I'll do a winmerge with orders.php and tracker.php and maybe pick up a clue as to what tracker is doing to affect this feature.

Will post anything I find here, but not likely until the first of the year.

BTW, I don't use Paypal Express, but do use Paypal Website Payment Standard (Paypal IPN). There is no provision to refund these Paypal payments on my tracker.php page so have always gone to Paypal.com and handled them there. The Paypal IPN always updated my tracker.php page comments with a confirmation of the refund.

It's been a long, long time since I have used order.php and don't remember if there was a refund feature displayed for Paypal Website Payments Standard. Will check that too and if so, then it looks like tracker.php needs to be updated with code from the current order.php.

Again, I will post what I find after I get into it. Thanks again for the very good lead.

Re: Returns/Voids for Linkpoint not working

I think the refunds feature is specific to Paypal Web Payments Pro and Paypal Express Checkout. Even so, I did have to edit the paypalwpp_admin_notification.php file as suggested in this post:

tj1:

For anyone interested, I just want to confirm that the edit I mentioned above works.

I'm still not sure if I'm the only one with this issue or if this is in fact missing from ZC 1.3.8

For those of you coming from the other thread about 'No Refunds', please try this, just like in the previous code, edit the file paypalwpp_admin_notification.php

Almost at the bottom of the file right after

} else { // PayPal

>
> insert this:
> ```php
if (method_exists($this, '_doCapt') && (MODULE_PAYMENT_PAYPALWPP_TRANSACTION_MODE == 'Auth Only' || (isset($_GET['authcapt']) && $_GET['authcapt']=='on'))) $output .= $outputCapt;
if (method_exists($this, '_doRefund')) $output .= $outputRefund;

This should give you the capture and refunds boxes.

Please report if it works.

That made the buttons appear, then the filenames.php edit made them functional.
